Outward Hound Neoprene Dawson Swimmer Dog Life Jacket, Large

Editor's note

Neoprene is the guide's material for cold water and short-coated dogs. It holds warmth, which is why the guide points it at spring rivers and cold lakes rather than a warm pool. The trade is that it is heavier wet and slower to dry. The listing gives neoprene panels for warmth and float on a ripstop body, with bright color, reflective trim and a top handle.

Fit first. Size by chest girth behind the front legs, standing, with weight as the second check. A large on the guide's rough map is a 28 to 36 inch chest, but verify against the maker's chart.

Check two things on arrival. The handle should sit above the shoulder blades, not near the tail, and there should be two belly buckles. One strap lets the jacket spin during a lift.
