Ruffwear Float Coat Dog Life Jacket, Purple Lily, Medium

Editor's note

A life jacket is a fit problem before it is a brand problem. The listing gives foam panels placed for a natural swimming position, a telescoping neck closure, a top handle and reflective trim. That covers the guide's fit and handle checks, and it leaves the buoyancy question to you, so match it to the water.

Size by chest girth, measured behind the front legs with the dog standing, and treat weight as a second check. A medium covers roughly a 22 to 30 inch chest on the guide's map, but verify against the maker's chart. Between sizes, go by girth, not length.

Check the handle sits above the shoulder blades when it is on. A rear-set handle tips the dog nose-down in a lift.
