K&H Pet Products Window Lounger Cat Perch Kitty Window Sill, Natural, 23x12-in

Editor's note

A window perch supplies the observation post without the footprint of a tree, and the guide notes it is often the single most-used surface in the house. A view of birds and street activity is the highest-value thing most indoor cats get all day, and this puts the cat at the glass.

The listing gives a 23 by 12 inch single-level sill for one cat, which folds up without being removed so the curtains still work. It is a perch, not a scratching surface, so it does not replace a post beside the sofa.

The failure is placement, as with every tree. A window that looks at a wall is not a view. Pick the window the cat already sits at, and in a multi-cat house a single perch is one contested resource.
