Rub it into clean, dry pads before the walk. A second application after rinsing off grit is a reasonable habit in a trail-heavy week.

It is not a boot. A wax is a thin layer, and on ground that is properly hot it is not enough. Read the ground before you walk. And a deep cut, a peeled pad or bleeding that does not stop in a few minutes is not a wax problem. That is a same-day vet visit.
