Coolaroo HeatShield Cooling Fabric Elevated Dog Bed, Great Sandy Beige, Medium

Editor's note

For a dog that lives outdoors part of the day, the guide's advice is an elevated, shaded rest surface with airflow underneath. That lowers resting body temperature compared with a solid surface in the same shade, and it is the reason this cot is here. The listing gives a suspended mesh bed on a frame that goes together without tools, a cover that resists mold and mildew, and a size that fits a crate.

Shade is the other half. A cot in full sun is a hot cot. Put it where air moves and the sun does not reach.

It is prevention, not treatment. A dog that is panting hard, drooling or unsteady has moved past anything a bed does. Start cooling before transport and get to a vet, even if it looks normal half an hour later.
