Coolaroo Steel-Framed Elevated Dog Bed, Nutmeg, Medium

Editor's note

An elevated cot for the warm-weather end of camping. The guide's rule is that on ground above 75 degrees a raised cot with airflow beats a foam pad the dog leaves within an hour. The listing gives a breathable fabric on a powder-coated steel frame that hoses clean, and a cover that resists mold and mildew.

It is a car-camping bed. Weight is irrelevant when you drive to the site, and this does not compress into a stuff sack. For backpacking, the guide wants a bed under 2 pounds.

The failure is cold. Below 50 degrees on the ground the airspace under a cot works against the dog, and a foam-core pad is the right bed. Inside a tent it is the wrong shape too, since cots snag and can puncture a tent floor.
