FurHaven Plush & Velvet Orthopedic Comfy Couch Dog & Cat Bed, Dark Gray, Medium

Editor's note

Bolsters are not wrong. Plenty of dogs like something to rest a head against, and this is the shape the guide chose for them, low sides on three edges with an open front. The dog gets a headrest without a wall to climb over, which is the problem a high bolster creates for a stiff or elderly animal.

The listing describes an orthopedic foam base with a zippered, machine-washable cover. Press it before you trust it. Firmness that resists your hand is the specification that matters, not the word on the label.

There is no waterproof membrane, so an accident goes straight into the foam. A separate protector costs a fraction of the bed. If the dog is thin and bony, very firm foam can cause pressure sores, so supportive should not mean plank.
