K&H Pet Products Self-Warming Nuzzle Nest Bolster Cat & Dog Bed, Leopard

Editor's note

A self-warming nest with a padded rim, which the guide prefers over an open mat for a dog that curls up rather than lies flat. The rim holds more of the animal's own heat in. There is no cord, so it can go in a crate, a car or anywhere you would rather not leave something plugged in.

It is for the healthy dog or cat on a cold floor, and for a chewer. It is not for the thin, frail or convalescent animal, which has little heat to reflect and needs a powered bed instead. Sold side by side with heated beds at similar prices, that is the mistake this shelf invites.

The listing says the whole bed goes in the washing machine. For anything that lives in a crate, that matters more than it sounds.
