Catstages Purrfect Rain Cat Water Fountain, 67-oz

Editor's note

A cheap way to find out if your cat cares about moving water at all, which is the only reason the guide includes a plastic fountain. Some cats prefer running water. Many do not, and two weeks with this next to the usual bowl will tell you which you have before you spend more.

It is plastic, so it scratches, and scratches hold biofilm. Strip it weekly and it is fine for a trial. Cleaned monthly it becomes a fountain the cat avoids. If the cat takes to it, the guide's advice is to move to stainless for the long run.

Do not buy it because an old cat has started drinking more. Measure the intake for three days and get bloodwork first. More water is a symptom to read, not a preference to accommodate.
