Frisco Dematting Dog Rake

Editor's note

This rake is for mats that have already formed, not for routine brushing. The guide's advice is small strokes, holding the hair at the base so the pull lands against your hand and not the skin. The listing mentions rounded blade ends and a grip handle, which matter on coarse coats that knot easily.

It suits a dog prone to knots, alongside a comb that catches them early. It does not suit a mat that is tight against the skin. That belongs to a groomer or your vet, and sedation with a full clip is the kind option for a badly matted animal.

Never reach for scissors instead. The skin tents up inside the mat, and the blades go through both.
