K&H Pet Products Thermo-Kitty Mat Heated Cat Bed, Gray

Editor's note

This is the powered option in the guide, and that is the reason to buy it. It makes heat rather than reflecting it, so it suits the cat that is thin, old, unwell or plainly cold in a house without a sunny window. A self-warming bed cannot do that job.

A flat mat is the easiest format to place. It goes on a windowsill, inside a bed the cat already uses, or on the chair it already sleeps on. Beds do not relocate cats.

Buy it large enough that the cat can lie half off, and check that it feels warm to your hand rather than hot. If the heat-seeking is new, get the bloodwork first. The bed can wait a week.
