Bergan Comfort Airline-Approved Dog & Cat Carrier Bag, Grey, Large

Editor's note

The soft-sided carrier guide picks this Bergan after its buying checklist, and the listing covers part of that list. It describes mesh ventilation panels and a shoulder strap. A washable fleece bed comes inside, and a seatbelt loop secures it in the car.

What the listing does not give is dimensions, and this is the large size. The guide's point is that airline approved is a marketing phrase, not a certification. Measure the carrier against your airline's current under-seat cap before booking. Across the six airlines the guide checked, the tightest envelope is roughly 17 by 10.5 by 8.5 inches.

Crews also check at the gate that the animal can stand up and turn around inside. Practice with the carrier at home for at least two weeks.
