Chew + Heal Max Protect Softies Reusable Dog Pee Pads, 24 x 36-in, 1 count

Editor's note

This pad is the guide's answer for a large dog with a large bed. One big reusable pad beats a mosaic of small ones that shift apart overnight. The listing gives it a twill top and a vinyl knit barrier, holding up to 8 oz of liquid, and it is machine washable.

Washable pads suit a predictable spot, such as a dog that leaks where it sleeps. They are cheaper after the first few months. For travel or unpredictable locations, disposables make more sense.

Two things go wrong. One pad is never enough, because you need several in rotation so a dry one is always ready. And a pad needs proper washing or it holds smell. Sort out the waterproof layer under the bed cover first.
