IRIS Large Open Top Cat Litter Pan, Pearl

Editor's note

Open top, good sightlines. In a house with any tension between cats, an open pan matters more than it does for a single cat. A covered box has one entrance and is easy to guard. This one has a low entry, which the listing points out suits kittens, elderly cats and anything with stiff joints.

It is one of several, not the one. The guide's rule is a box per cat plus one, in different rooms, and the box itself is nearly incidental next to the count and the spread.

Check the length against your cat. About one and a half times nose to base of tail is the working rule, and most pans sold are smaller than that. Unscented clumping litter, scooped daily, and a mat underneath.
