Petmate Basic Cat Litter Pan, Sapphire Blue, Jumbo

Editor's note

Jumbo, cheap, and the guide's instruction is to buy three. That is the whole strategy for a multi-cat home. Count the cats, add one, put the pans in different rooms and none of them in a dead end. Three plain pans spread through the house do more than the most expensive machine in the catalog.

Size is why it is the jumbo. A box should be about one and a half times the length of the cat, nose to base of tail. Most boxes sold are smaller than that for an average adult. Too small is one of the more common causes of a cat going elsewhere.

It is open-topped, which keeps the sightlines a nervous cat wants. Scoop it daily, skip the liner, and put a mat under it.
