Petmate Pearl Pet Cafe Gravity Refill Dog & Cat Feeder, Tan, 12-cup

Editor's note

The feeder guide includes this gravity feeder for one narrow case, and it is blunt about it. Free-choice gravity feeding is the default failure of the category for any dog with food drive, because there is no portion control and the dog eats what it wants.

It earns a place as a quiet backup that cannot jam, or for the rare dog that regulates its own intake. The listing describes a 12 cup hopper that refills the bowl as it empties, with a wide mouth for cleaning.

Kibble can go stale in the column, so keep the fill modest. Weigh the dog every two weeks at first. If the weight climbs, this is the wrong feeder.
