PetSafe Smart Feed 2.0 Wifi-Enabled Automatic Dog & Cat Feeder, Blue

Editor's note

The single most useful feature on an automatic feeder is dispense confirmation, and that is why this one is in the guide. A feeder that jams silently is worse than no feeder, because you believe the dog ate. One that pushes a notification when the meal did not dispense gives you the evening to fix it.

The listing gives portions from an eighth of a cup up to four cups, and up to 12 meals a day. The eighth-cup increment is what lets it serve a small dog properly.

It solves timing, not absence, and it does not know how much your dog should eat. Get a body condition score and the food's calories per cup before you program anything. Test it for a week while you are home, and put the bowl on the floor for a deep-chested dog.
