Sleepypod Air Cat & Dog Travel Bed & Carrier, One Size, Charcoal Grey

Editor's note

Only a small subset of carriers are built and tested for crash forces, and Sleepypod is the brand the guide names for it. This is the same brand's soft, in-cabin line, for owners who want that crash testing and a carrier shaped for occasional flights. The listing gives a luggage-handle pocket, tabs that hold the mesh panels open, and a length that compresses from 22 inches to 16 to fit under a range of airline seats.

The guide is direct about who should not buy it. If your visits are strictly local, a hard-sided top-loading carrier does the job for most cats at a fraction of the price.

Belt it in on every trip, even the ten-minute one. And for a flight, measure your airline's stated under-seat opening first. Airline approved is a phrase, not a certification.
