Nite Ize NiteHowl Mini Rechargeable LED Safety Necklace Dog Collar

Editor's note

Most car-versus-dog incidents happen in the two hours around sunrise or sunset, and the guide's answer is a rechargeable light on the dog. This is the small one. The listing gives a rechargeable LED loop you cut to length, with a steady color or a color-changing mode, in weather-resistant housing.

Use it in steady mode. The guide's point is that flashing can be missed at a glance, and a light that stays on is what a driver's eye settles on.

It is a visibility aid, not a collar for a leash. Keep the tag with a current phone number on the collar the dog wears anyway. Someone who finds a loose dog reads the tag before they drive to a vet. A chip is the backstop, not the first line.
